Refused at the border "Check point Charly" with Nicaragua

Tuesday 14 June 2011

Ronald
Scotty
Left early again and had a long dirt road ahead of us and we decided to see if we could get all the way to Nicaragua and use the Los Manos Border to cross. The dirt road gave us fantastic views of  the sparsely populated area of the department of Yoro and were making an average of 25 miles an hour and after a few stops we reached Talanga, where the road improved to paved and took the short cut to Danli using the same road we took a few months ago when we visited Valle the Angeles near Tegus and around 2 pm reached the border, where all the fun started. Our last trip in January we used no license plate at all and managed to get in Guatemala. This trip , we made actually license plates and had them on our moto's. After Scotty paid his yearly exit fee of $250.00 for  not being a resident of Honduras and overstayed his tourist card stay with probably 3 or 4 months, we continued to the Nicaragua side and processed ourselves through immigration and actually got the paperwork done on our moto's, which all is free for me and the moto's, being it part of the CA4 agreement between Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua.
Scotty had to pay to get in Nicaragua and it took a lot of time to process him and immigration in Nicaragua wanted to double check if he paid his fine on the Honduran side, but eventually we were ready to go and left the border to be stopped 10 feet further, where we had a final paper check by an 18 year old police guy and after he walked to see if our papers matched the plates, he start screaming they were false plates. I told the plates match, look at the VIN numbers if you want to make a case, but not with our license plates. Anyway after 2 hours arguing we gave up and returned to the Honduran side, after turning all paperwork in and going through immigration again and Scotty had all the fees again, but received an entry stamp for Honduras and was good for 90 days to stay in the country. We drove silently back to the nearest town El Paraiso, checked into a good hotel with A/C and start discussing , what to do next, with a few beers!
