Going to Yaviza and back

Sunday 12 June 2011

Today, Scotty and I boarded the bikes on the Tonia C freightboat to bring them to La Ceiba, from where we would make a 20 day trip to Panama to see the end of the road in Central America. The trip on the Tonia C was rough and took almost 3 hours and were glad the bikes didn't get dammage, some other bikes did get scratches, because they were not tied down good and the owners of the bike were not on the boat themselves.

After paying some dock fees ($ 6.00), we were free to go and decided to stay in the Jungle Lodge in Pico Bonito National Park, which is only 15 minutes away along the Congrejal river and around 4 pm, we pulled in , settled in a dark small hot room, what was very basic, changed my clothes and went for a refreshing dip in the river. which is used for river rafting and is considered a cat 3 at some places.

Later that night we had a few beers and a good supper and asked around how the road was over the mountains to Olanchito, Yoro and this road or trail was for me a myth the last 20 years, because everybody says it was not possible. We will see tomorrow, who is right! The place was very quite and it was nice to hear the rush of the water all night long and it was cooler as I expected in the room
